Formulation

What’s inside — and why it matters

Punarnava

Rasayana that strengthens memory and brain power

Punarnava is a herb that acts as a rasayana to strengthen memory and brain power. In tridoshic oil formulations it balances the vata and kapha doshas, clearing metabolic waste (ama) from the mental channels. When applied through shiro abhyanga (head massage), it enhances brain circulation and nourishes the majja dhatu (nerve tissue). Its bioactive compound liriodendron provides neuroprotective benefits. In Charaka Samhita punarnava is included in the vayahsthapana mahakashaya group, herbs used to maintain youth and delay aging. In Bhela Samhita, a medicated decoction containing punarnava is recommended for parisechana (pouring therapy) over the head to treat suryavarta.

Ashwagandha

Balya and Rasayana, a household nervine

Listed in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India and the WHO Monographs on Selected Medicinal Plants (2009), Ashwagandha is classified in Charaka Samhita under the Balya (strength-promoting) and Rasayana (rejuvenative) groups. It is primarily vata and kapha pacifying due to its heating energy (ushna virya) and sweet post-digestive effect (madhura vipaka). It becomes 'tridoshic' when infused into the correct carrier. Warm Ashwagandha-infused Abhyanga is a time-honoured practice for easing muscular tension and stiffness.

Bala

The Sanskrit name literally means strength

Classified in Charaka Samhita under the Balya group and recognised in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India. It primarily balances vata (due to its oily and heavy nature) but is considered tridoshahara. It is a classical rasayana herb acting as a nervine tonic, used in traditional treatment for neurological conditions such as sciatica and neuralgia, paralysis, anxiety, and stress-related exhaustion.

Shatavari

The queen of herbs

Shatavari is recognized in classical ayurvedic texts like the Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hridaya as a tridoshic herb. While it primarily pacifies aggravated vata and pitta, its heavy and unctuous nature provides the stability required to balance kapha. It is a rasayana which prevents ageing, imparts immunity, improves mental function, and adds vigor and vitality.

Bhringraj

Tridoshahara and Medhya (brain tonic)

Bhringraj is one of the few herbs capable of simultaneously balancing vata, pitta and kapha. Raja Nighantu describes bhringraj as tridoshahara and medhya (brain tonic). Chakradatta says it promotes intellect (medha) and Charaka Samhita includes it in the management of urdhvajatrugata roga (diseases of the head/brain region). Its light and dry qualities help clear 'mental fog' or stagnation (Ama) from the channels of the brain (manovaha srotas).

Brahmi

One of the most important Medhya Rasayana herbs

Brahmi is highly regarded in Ayurveda as tridoshahara, thereby restoring equilibrium to the body and mind. Its soothing, rejuvenating nature helps reduce stress, anxiety, and sleeplessness, which are signs of vata imbalance. Brahmi is especially valued for its ability to cool and settle an aggravated pitta dosha.

Guduchi

Amrita - the nectar of immortality

Called Amrita in classical Ayurveda, Guduchi is a Rasayana listed in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India and revered in Charaka Samhita. Guduchi's oily and heavy qualities nourish the nerve tissues, help ground the mind, reduce 'mental chatter' and enhance the ability to process information without stress.

Chitraka

Nerve stimulant that relaxes the central nervous system

Chitrak is a potent ayurvedic rasayana that acts as a tridoshahara, primarily balancing vata and kapha due to its ushna (hot) potency. For the brain it acts as a nerve stimulant and relaxes the central nervous system, helping to reduce anxiety and stress. It clears Ama (toxins), enhances circulation, and supports mental rejuvenation.

Neem

Bitter and cooling, pacifies pitta and kapha

In ayurveda, neem-infused base oil acts as tridoshahara during shirodhara by balancing vata, pitta and kapha. Its bitter (tikta) and cooling (sheeta) properties specifically pacify pitta (heat) and kapha (stagnation), while the base oil grounds vata.

Manjistha

One of the best detoxifying herbs

Manjistha is primarily a pittahara herb. When infused into oil - particularly for abhyanga or shirodhara - it cools the nervous system, reducing heat-related emotions such as anger, irritability, and stress. Manjistha reduces inflammation and provides coolness to the head.

Bhuiamalaki

Liver health, with secondary benefits for the brain

Bhuiamalaki, traditionally known as bhumi amla, acts primarily on liver health, with secondary benefits for the brain by balancing kapha and pitta doshas. It reduces mental dullness and lethargy, clears ama through liver detoxification for better cognitive clarity, reduces excessive moisture as a diuretic and astringent, and offers neuroprotective antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

Vacha

A premier medhya rasayana

Vacha is a premier medhya rasayana (brain tonic) in Ayurveda, renowned for balancing vata and kapha doshas, which help clear manovaha srotas (mental channels). It acts as a tridoshaghna herb on the brain by reducing kapha-induced mental sluggishness and calming vata-induced anxiety. It enhances intellect, memory and speech.

Til Taila

The base oil

Tila taila is recognized in Ayurveda as tridoshahara, with the unique ability to balance all three doshas when used correctly as a base oil. While inherently warming, its versatility allows it to carry diverse herbal properties that target specific doshic imbalances.

Nilgiri oil

Tridoshahara agent

Nilgiri is highly regarded in Ayurveda for its potential as a tridoshahara agent - meaning it has the ability to balance the three doshas.

Tulsi

Adaptogen and antioxidant

Tulsi gets its name from goddess Lakshmi, symbolizing longevity and compassion. Tulsi on a daily basis balances Kapha and Vata doshas. Modern studies identify Tulsi as an adaptogen and antioxidant. Vitamins and minerals present include Vitamin A, C, K, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Phosphorous, Iron, Protein and Fiber. Tulsi contains anti-inflammatory properties along with Ocimumosides compounds. Pains and headaches are addressed by a compound called Eugenol in Tulsi.

Lavender oil

Tridoshahara, balances all three doshas

Lavender oil is considered tridoshahara in Ayurveda, meaning it has the ability to balance all three doshas - vata (anxiety, pain), pitta (inflammation, heat), and kapha (congestion, sluggishness).

Jatamansi

Grounding, calms the mind

Provides a grounding effect to calm the mind and support a healthy response to stress.
